As an apprentice here at UHNM you will have a training agreement with an approved work-based Learning Provider. The apprenticeship is a combination of theory and practice with much of the learning being assessed in the workplace. Apprentices learn the practical skills needed within the workplace alongside staff in the hospital and off-the-job they learn the underpinning knowledge from a Tutor usually on a day release basis. Every framework is tailored to suit the individual Apprentice and their department to ensure that the combination of theory and practice is the right one.

- A firm commitment from the Trust to pay an apprenticeship a salary (at nationally agreed rates) and support for the duration of the apprenticeship

- A chance to achieve a nationally recognised qualification

- The knowledge and experience to take the first steps on the ladder to a successful career

- High quality skills that are increasingly recognised by employers

An apprenticeship is a set of qualifications specific to a skill area called a 'framework'. It involves:

- Most Apprenticeship frameworks follow a standard format which includes all or some of:

- Competence based qualification (assessed on the job)

- Knowledge based qualification (technical certificate or elements within the NVQ)

- Functional/Key skills (Literacy/Numeracy/ICT)

- Employee rights and responsibilities

- Personal, Learning and Thinking skills 

An apprenticeship within the Trust will be for a period of 12/18 months. There may be opportunities for progression onto further apprenticeship qualifications and you will have access to apply for any available recruitment opportunities in the Trust.
