About us

UHNM Charity is a registered charity which provides funds to enable University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and to enhance and improve patient experience and comfort at County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. The charity also funds additional training for staff and research programmes.

The charity exists to enable patients and their loved ones to thank the staff and hospitals for the care given to them and, on their behalf, aims to help UHNM provide the very best treatment, care and experience for its patients now and in the future.

UHNM Charity is the Trust’s chosen charity because all of the funds raised for, or donated to the charity, go directly towards improving the care and experience of people who use the services that the hospitals provide. The Trust relies on the charity to pay for equipment, comforts, education and research which would not otherwise be provided by the NHS.

The majority of our supporters either have, or will in the future, use the services provided at the hospitals or know someone who has. By donating to UHNM Charity you are helping us to achieve our aim of supporting UHNM to become one of the top university teaching hospitals in the UK by 2025 and establish a world-class reputation by 2030.

By supporting UHNM Charity you will be part of something special. You can be assured that by choosing to donate to us you are helping to improve the health, comfort and hospital experience of local people every day.

UHNM Charity has been supporting the hospital on this site for many years. Some of the more recent major spends include the PET CT scanner and the OPMI Pentero Microscope. We have also supported many areas to develop their services including launching our flagship Fresh Hair, Wigs and Wellbeing Salon. We’ve also brought a range of art projects to the hospital through our partnership with Appetite.

County Hospital serves the community of Stafford and the surrounding areas including Rugeley, Eccleshall and Stone; as well as those people who live further afield and choose County Hospital as the place to have their elective and outpatient treatments.  It touches the lives of everyone be it a child, mother, father, grand parent or friend – no matter their age, or condition. Our fundraising appeal was launched in August 2017 to make County Hospital the best that it can be for our patients.

Your donations have already had  real impact on our patients we have spent £400,000 already.

- Our most vulnerable patients
Our first £80,000 helped our most vulnerable patients, such as those with dementia. For these patients, the unfamiliar environment of a hospital can be frightening and make them anxious; it can lead to a decline in mental well-being. Our appeal created safe and comforting environments on our wards, places where they can relax and take part in interesting and stimulating activities.

- Equitable care
£25,000 has updated two treatment rooms in our award winning orthodontics and maxillofacial department. This has ensured all clinical rooms are of the same standard and  meant that patients receive their care quicker.

- Reducing patient anxiety
More than £300,000 has helped to redevelop the Out Patients Department. By using light, space, colour, soft furnishings and art work we have made the environment more comfortable and easier for patients to find their way around. These improvements will support more than 125,000 local people, who attend the department each year. This project will be complete at the end May 2018.

UHNM Charity understands the value of good quality art and the positive impacts it can have on the wellbeing of patients, visitors and staff. We support many wards and departments across the Trust to develop projects and to source funding for art. Through our partnership with UHNM Arts Steering Group and Appetite we delivered a ‘taster’ programme of arts during 2014 which received a positive response from many of the people who experienced it.
